On February 1, 2024, the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) organized a one-day
hybrid workshop entitled "Cost of Inaction and Action for Plastic Pollution" at Sukosol Hotel,
Bangkok. The main objective of this workshop was to advance awareness of the costs of
inaction and promote proactive measures against plastic pollution in the region, aligning with
the United Nations Sustainability vision. During the workshop, Professor C. Visvanathan, Lecturer
from Civil and Environmental Engineering was invited as a panelist in the session titled
"Identification of Actions across the life cycle." He was primarily tasked with discussing the role
of "Extended Producer Responsibility" in the plastic life cycle. Later, he served as one of the
main key presenters in the session on “Roadmap to Institutionalize the Assessment,” where he
presented on the current practices and challenges in the institutionalization of data collection,
analysis, and reporting on plastic pollution in various countries.
