All Engineering Programs adhere to the general admissions policy of Mahidol University which consists of two systems, namely, TCAS system and Direct Admission system of Mahidol University. By this policy, TCAS system is applicable to all undergraduate Thai programs whereas Direct Admission system specified to all International Programs of Mahidol University at the bachelor level. The Thai Engineering Programs requires freshman admission through the TCAS system only, the International Engineering Programs provide freshman admission through both TCAS system and Direct Admission system of Mahidol University.
The Thai University Central Admission System or TCAS system has been organized and developed since 2017 by Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT). This system has one admission cycle in a year and consists of 4 rounds of admission in sequence from round 1 to round 4 namely, Portfolio, Quota, Admission and Direct Admission, respectively. All Thai university or college is responsible to set up the admission criteria, interview process including announcement for the qualified applicants in the TCAS round 1 (Portfolio), round 2 (Quota) and round 4 (Direct Admission). CUPT will also be responsible for setting criteria and managerial operation for round 3 or Admission to select the qualified applicants from all over the country providing to all Thai university and college. For academic year 2021, around 300,000 nationwide applicants applied in TCAS round 3 in order to be admitted into program selected from total number of 8,371 programs within 81 universities in different professional area including engineering (https://www.mytcas.com/). If the applicants are qualified through the process in each round, they must affirm and claim their own right to stop the TCAS process using the clearing-house system. The qualified applicants that might not satisfied for his/her selected result must give up one’s right before applying to the next round of TCAS. But finally every qualified applicants both from TCAS system and Direct Admission System of Mahidol University must affirm their own right at the ended round of both system. This is due to one own right per one student policy for nationwide admission. The first round of TCAS admission (Portfolio) usually starts early in December and the last round of Direct Admission ends in June of the next year similar to the Direct Admission of Mahidol University. The TCAS admission plan, criteria and schedule for each year will be organized and early announced by CUPT. The criteria requirements for admission to Mahidol University and its individual programs are reviewed annually. At the university level, recommendations that emerge from annual assessments are forwarded to the University’s Executive Committee for consideration. The Admissions Committee at the Faculty Level composed of Dean of Mahidol Engineering, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Quality Assurance, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Student Affairs, Department Chair and Program Chair work closely with the Vice President for Academic Affairs to ensure that all requirements remain consistent with the institution’s mission, vision and strategic goals. In the Faculty of Engineering, changes and refinements are developed in collaboration with each program and reviewed annually by the Admission Committee, then reports to the Faculty of Engineering Committee.
To be eligible for admission to Engineering Programs, the applicants must hold a high school diploma or its equivalent certificate in the program or studying in Mathayom Suksa 6 (grade 12). cumulative grade point average from three-year study at high school is general qualification requirement as criteria for enrollment. Besides GPA requirement, applicants must hold a score of 9 common subjects (Thai, Mathematics I, Mathematics II, Social, Physics, Science, English, Chemistry, and Biology) including General Attitude Test (GAT) and Professional Attitude and Academic Test for Engineering Professional (PAT3). The subject requirements selected from 9 common subjects including GAT, PAT3 for admission can be seen from the website https://tcas.mahidol.ac.th/. The 9 common subjects as well as GAT/PAT3 are tested by the National Institute of Educational Testing Service or NIETS in order for universities to consider the applicants based on their score through the clearing-house system. The score of candidates who apply for TCAS admission is then ranked by scoring for the interview process in April to June. The interview process is organized by the Faculty of Engineering in collaboration with Department as well as the program. The successful candidates will be posted in June of every year.
