On December 15, 2023, Assistant Professor Dr. Pattaraporn Posoknistakul, Deputy Dean for International Relations and Special Affairs, and Dr. Mushtag Ahmed Memon, Regional Coordinator for Resource Efficiency at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Asia Pacific Regional Office, presided over and delivered opening speeches at the meeting. The event focused on presenting and discussing ideas on plastic waste management in Thailand and was directed by Professor Chettiyappan Visvanathan, the project director and a lecturer from the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. The meeting took place at Kamontip Meeting Room 1, 2nd Floor, Sukosol Hotel, Bangkok. The meeting was honored by the presence of Khun Pornphrom Vikitsreth, Advisor to the Governor of Bangkok. Several presentations and brainstorming sessions took place, covering the following topics:
1."Marine Plastic Waste Survey Tool," presented by Khun Kittiphon Bunma from the Geoinformatics Center, Asian Institute of Technology (GIC AIT).
2."Marine Plastic Waste Survey Protocol," presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Achara Ussawarujikulchai, a lecturer from the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies at Mahidol University.
3."Operational GPML Risk and Warning System for Macro Plastic Litter," presented by Dr. Somchai Chonwattana, an expert from DHI Thailand.
4."Plastic Waste Management Policy in Thailand," presented by Khun Wasana Chaengprajak from the Pollution Control Department, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
5."Business Models Related to Plastic Waste Management in Thailand," presented by Khun Saksit Borrisuttanakul from TPBI Public Company Limited.
6."Community Cooperation in Plastic Waste Management," presented by the Abbot of Wat Chak Daeng (Phrarajawatbandit).
7."What Are Bankable Proposals?" presented by Ms. Swati Singh Sambyal, an expert from Capacity Development Global Waste GRID-Arendal (UNEP Partner).
8."Plastic Waste Management in Bangkok," presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Komsilp Wangyao from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi.
