On August 19, 2021, the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jackrit Suthakorn, Dean, along with Dr. Eakkachai Warinsirirak, Department Chair of Industrial Engineering, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Carl Zeiss AG Manufacturing Company (ZEISS), a world-class technology leader presented by Mr. Teerapong Boonrodchu, Managing Director – ZEISS Thailand, and Mr. Hendrie Viktor, Head of Sales ZEISS SEA.
The objective of this agreement is to exchange knowledge and develop Thai young generation skills in using software and CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) technology, a 3D mechanical precision measurement for quality control and measuring complex work pieces with high resolution. It is considered an advanced engineering skill in developing 10 target industries.
There are 6 Universities which signed MoU with ZEISS, namely, King Mongkut's University of Technology, North Bangkok, King Mongkut's University of Technology, Thonburi, Suranaree University of Technology, Chiang Mai University, Prince of Songkla University, and Rajamangala University of Technology, Isan by organizing the ceremony through online Zoom Meeting.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jackrit Suthakorn, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, stated that the objective of binding an MoU with ZEISS for a period of 5 years is to develop and upgrade the skills of engineering community of Thailand to have the knowledge and expertise in advanced technologies such as 3D measurement, sophisticated technology with high accuracy which combines software simulation, practice and application.
He continued that if young engineers and technicians are competent in this area, it will result in a considerable growth in Thailand industry and promote the New S-Curve and S-Curve industries to support the demand for high-level workers in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), including Robotics, Medical Science, Transportation and Aviation, Biofuels-Chemicals, Digitalization, Modern Vehicles, and Intelligent Electronics Biotechnology. It strengthens the Thai industry for long-term sustainable growth as well.
Mr. Teerapong Boonrodchu, Managing Director – ZEISS Thailand, said that ZEISS is very pleased for signing an MOU with educational institutions which are the Top 7 Universities in Thailand to jointly develop the knowledge of the new generation of engineers for high-level technological skills that can add value and develop the industry in the future. This academic collaboration with 7 universities is a multi-format activity including training seminars, organizing technical competitions (Metrology Competitions), testing, 2 - 6 months internship, etc.
ZEISS has been established in Germany for over 175 years, since 1889. We develop advanced innovative solutions under the name “ZEISS” for semiconductors, automotive industry and mechanical engineering, life science research and aerospace materials, medical technology solutions for ophthalmology diagnosis and treatment, microsurgery, radiotherapy, and microscopy and medical technology network systems.
ZEISS is a global technology leader in the production of systems and modules for microchip manufacturing with semiconductor manufacturing optics, photomask system, and process control solutions, core technology for producing ultra-fine conductor rail structures on silicon wafers as the raw material used to make microchips. The advancement in computer technology relies on the continuous improvement of optical lithography. This allows for the production of finer structures on microchips and makes the circuit smaller, resulting in more powerful and energy efficient microchips.
ZEISS is also a trendsetter in shaping the future of technology and advancing the world of optics such as eyeglasses, camera lenses and binoculars along with developing the future industries like health-care digital development and intelligent manufacturing.
