On March 16, 2021, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jackrit Suthakorn, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yodchanan Wongsawat, Vice Dean for Research and International Relations along with Faculty Members from the Department of Logistics and Rail Engineering (CLARE) met with Dr. Chayathan Promsorn, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Mr. Panya Chupanich, Director of the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP), and Mr. Pichet Kunadhamraks, Deputy Director General of the Department of Rail Transport at the Ministry of Transport.
In this meeting, a report was given on the development of the application for BKK Rail project by the rail engineering team of the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University and the Ministry of Transport. This project is to link various lines from all service providers in Bangkok and its immediate vicinity to reach a large number of people using the rail service. This electric railway system will help people to travel to many locations efficiently. To achieve its widespread use, this project will be presented to the cabinet by the Ministry of Transport. The Ministry of Transport supports the rail transportation project in conjunction with the city development around Salaya Railway Station as a model showing the Ministry preparation for the expansion of the transportation system and urban development according to the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD).
