On March 24, 2026, Associate Professor Dr. Trakarn Prapaspongsa, Chair of the Doctor of Philosophy Program in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering (International Program) at the Faculty of Engineering at Mahidol University, welcomed Professor Retsef Levi from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. Dr. Trakarn Prapaspongsa was accompanied by Professor Chettiyappan Visvanathan from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
The meeting took place in Room 530, at the Office of the President. University executives also attended. These included Professor Chagriya Kitiyakara, MBBS (Lond), FRCP, Vice President for Research, along with representatives from faculties and institutes who were interested in exchanging knowledge and exploring academic collaboration between the two institutions.
The meeting was to introduce research networks between MIT and Mahidol University, as well as to exchange research interests with a strong focus on environmental sustainability. Key topics included water management, air quality, PM2.5 pollution, and environmental monitoring systems. All of these are critical global challenges that require innovative and collaborative solutions.
During the session, faculty members and researchers from Mahidol University presented a wide range of research topics across multiple disciplines, including engineering, environmental science, public health, science, and social sciences. The presentations covered important issues such as air pollution management, the impacts of PM2.5 on health and the economy, climate change, and the development of sustainable technologies. Professor Retsef Levi also provided valuable insights and engaged in in-depth discussions with participants.
Professor Retsef Levi also shared his experiences from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, opening discussions on future research collaboration opportunities, including joint projects and international academic networks. This visit marks an important step in strengthening the partnership between Mahidol University and MIT, advancing environmental research and innovation toward global sustainability.
