On November 11–12, 2025, Associate Professor Dr. Benchaporn Lertanantawong, Deputy Dean for Research and Academic Services of the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University welcomed representatives from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, including Prof. Mo Zandi, Dr. Payam Soulatiantork, Mr. Vaughan McKee, and Miss Jessie Teo. Dr. Benchaporn Lertanantawong was accompanied by faculty members from the Department of Computer Engineering: Assistant Professor Dr. Konlakorn Wongpatikaseree, Department Chair, Professor Paisarn Muneesawang, Dr. Karin Sumongkayothin, and a group of students. The visit was to exchange knowledge and strengthen academic collaboration at the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University.
The delegation from Sheffield toured the Industrial Engineering Laboratory, where they were welcomed by Dr. Eakkachai Warinsiriruk, Head of the Flex Lab (Flexible Manufacturing System Laboratory). He gave an overview of the facilities and research focus of the lab. The team joined a workshop at Innogineer Studio on Digital Twin Concepts. It introduced participants to the fundamentals of Digital Twin technology, software installation, and relevant examples of Siemens software.
The workshop continued with a session on Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs) and Building Digital Twins, which featured a special online lecture by Dr. Steve Jones from the UK under the Siemens Connected Curriculum Project. This was followed by hands-on activities using Siemens software. The interactive format allowed the students to explore practical applications of Digital Twin and CPS technologies in a real-world industrial context.
This collaborative activity marked another milestone in the growing partnership between Mahidol University’s Faculty of Engineering and the University of Sheffield, aimed at enhancing digital engineering skills and smart industry knowledge among students. It also reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to advance international academic and research collaboration in the field of intelligent industrial technologies.
