On October 29, 2025, the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, organized the Zero Waste Workshop to promote knowledge and understanding, along with practical skills in waste segregation and sustainable waste management. Participating faculty members, staff, and students were welcomed to the event which took place in Room R-238, 2nd Floor, Building 1, Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University.
The opening ceremony was honored by Assistant Professor Dr. Korporn Panyim, Deputy Dean for Administration and Finance, Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, who delivered the opening remarks. The event was also attended by Associate Professor Dr. Trakarn Prapaspongsa, Chair of the Mahidol Engineering Zero Waste Living Lab Project. The workshop featured guest speakers from the Office of Physical Resources Management, Chulalongkorn University, and the Chula Zero Waste team, led by Mr. Korb Limsuwan, Director of the Physical Resources Information Management Division.
Participants gained insights into the 3R principles - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle - and learned practical approaches toward achieving Zero Waste through lectures and hands-on activities. Pre- and post-training assessments were conducted to measure the knowledge and understanding of participants. The session was lively, engaging, and filled with valuable environmental lessons. At 2:45 p.m. on the same day, a training session for Faculty maintenance workers and cleaning staff was held in Active Learning Room R-228. This provided knowledge on waste reduction and segregation based on the 3R principles, as well as Zero Waste management.
The workshop concluded with an introduction to the upcoming Mahidol Engineering Zero Waste Challenge 2025: Pitching Day, which will encourage faculty members, students and staff to develop innovative environmental initiatives within the Faculty. The closing ceremony was presided over by Assistant Professor Dr. Korporn Panyim. He expressed appreciation to partners and participants for their collaboration and commitment to advancing the Zero Waste movement at Mahidol University.
The Faculty of Engineering hopes that this training will raise the participants’ awareness about waste management issues and encourage active participation in waste reduction and segregation within Mahidol University, following the Zero Waste principles. This initiative will push the university toward becoming a true Zero Waste University - something that can be achieved only when students, staff, and everyone on campus work together to sort their daily waste properly.
