Professor Dr. Chettiyapan Visvanthan of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, participated in the 8th ERIA Experts Working Group (EWG) on Marine Plastic Debris. This was held in Hanoi, Vietnam, from September 25–26, 2025, and was organized by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES). The meeting served as a key platform to address the challenges of marine plastic pollution while sharing progress made by ASEAN+3 countries.
The conference brought together more than 28 participants in both onsite and online formats, including experts from ASEAN+3 member countries, researchers, and partner organizations. Discussions highlighted project updates, new research directions, and collaborative initiatives focusing on plastic waste management and the promotion of a circular economy.
Professor Dr. Chettiyapan Visvanthan was invited to deliver a presentation entitled “ASEAN’s Circular Shift: Current Status, Driving Forces and Future Outlook.” His talk emphasized the current situation, major driving forces, and future directions for advancing circular economy practices in the ASEAN region, supporting science-based policymaking for sustainable development.
The event successfully shared knowledge and strengthened international collaboration. It reaffirmed commitment of the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University to advancing global environmental research and contributing to sustainable solutions for marine plastic pollution.
