On June 5, 2025, World Environment Day, the Engineering for Social Responsibility Unit of the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, took part in in a hands-on training workshop at the Veterinary and Remount Department, Royal Thai Army, Thongtheekayu Camp, Nakhon Pathom. The event was to strengthen the capacity of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Volunteer Network. The initiative was organized by Ms. Sukanya Leejalearn, Head of the Engineering for Social Responsibility Unit, and her team. It was led by Associate Professor Dr. Benchaporn Lertanantawong, Acting as Deputy Dean for Research and Academic Services.
Mr. Montchai Pun-O, Director of the Environmental Division, presided over the opening ceremony. The training is to build awareness and practical knowledge among volunteers regarding greenhouse gas reduction and PM2.5 management. Emphasis was also placed on preventing health impacts from haze or fine dust — a pressing environmental challenge in Thailand and around the world.
The Engineering for Social Responsibility Unit shared its engineering-based approach to support the efforts of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Volunteer Network. The program included guidance on air quality monitoring tools, strategies to reduce local pollution emissions, and creative community engagement activities to raise environmental awareness.
This collaboration reflects the power of partnership between academic institutions, government agencies, and society in the promotion of sustainable environmental oversight. It also marks an important step toward addressing climate change and mitigating the health effects of air pollution on a broader scale as part of the Faculty’s recognition of World Environment Day.
