On 13 December 2024, the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, through the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, in collaboration with Chiang Mai University, the University of Sheffield, Pattanasiri Engineering Limited Partnership, Tha Chiang Thong Company Limited, and the Environmental Engineering Association of Thailand, organized a short training course on “Biogas Optimization and Community Biogas Grid Systems” under the project “Biogas Empowerment: Accelerating Community Grids and Collaborative Networks in Thailand (BEACON).” The course took place at the Chamcha Room, Le Meridien Chiang Rai Resort, as well as online via the Zoom application.
This course aimed to enhance knowledge and skills within the industry and the research community. The presentation topics include “fundamentals in biogas technology and co-digestion”, “co-digestion design support tool”, “basic designs on biogas production, biogas grid and safety systems”, “biogas system selection, operation and maintenance”, and “techno-economic feasibility of community biogas grid systems and decision support tool”. The presentations were delivered by academic and industrial experts from various institutions, including: Assistant Professor Dr. Patiroop Pholchan from Chiang Mai University, Mr. Nattakorn Towiwek, an environmental engineer and biogas technology expert, Mr. Alongkorn Siriphat from Pattanasiri Engineering Limited Partnership., and Associate Professor Dr. Trakarn Prapaspongsa from Mahidol University. The course preparation was also supported by Dr. Davide Poggio from the University of Sheffield. The training course successfully attracted 260 registrants and 175 participants, with 45 attending on-site at Le Meridien Chiang Rai Resort and 130 attending online.
This short training course is part of the project “Biogas Empowerment: Accelerating Community Grids and Collaborative Networks in Thailand (BEACON),” led by Associate Professor Dr. Trakarn Prapaspongsa, Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, and Technical Committee Chairman of the Environmental Engineering Association of Thailand (EEAT), together with Dr. Davide Poggio from the University of Sheffield. The project has been funded by Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI), Thailand, through Program Management Unit for Competitiveness (PMU C), in collaboration with Pattanasiri Engineering Limited Partnership, and the Royal Academy of Engineering.
