The Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, congratulates Team EcoMate from the Department of Industrial Engineering for winning first prize in the Mahidol Engineering Zero Waste Challenge 2025, on November 19, 2025. The team received a cash prize of 5,000 THB. This achievement highlights the creativity and capability of the team in developing practical, environmentally focused technology solutions.
The EcoMate project stands out for its innovative use of AI and IoT technology in smart waste management. The system features automatic waste recognition, a self-opening and closing bin, real-time feedback to help users improve sorting accuracy, and a reward-based mechanism that allows users to earn points from recycling. The points can be exchanged for services, such as free Anywheel bike rides on campus. The concept reflects a design that connects technology, human behavior, and positive motivation to promote sustainable habits.
The EcoMate team of third-year Industrial Engineering students includes:
1. Miss Tonkao Amornmongkolkul
2. Miss Phimphatcharee Yothachan
3. Miss Panpaingduean Udomkeatpaisan
4. Mr. Jirayut Thongkoedluang
5. Miss Kronkanok Bussabong
The team successfully integrated academic knowledge with development of a hands-on solution. This resulted in a project that is practical and environmentally sustainable.
This success demonstrates the commitment of Mahidol University: guiding students to becoming leaders in technology and responsible innovation. The Faculty of Engineering continues to inspire new ideas for sustainable waste and environmental management for the future.
