Dr Daniel Huerlimann, OpenTrack Railway Technology Ltd. and Philip Goetz, Rail Systems Engineering, visited Mahidol University on 21st May 2018 to deliver a 1-day workshop on railway planning and simulation. Over 20 Master and PhD students and MU staff attended the training. Both guests are originally from Switzerland and during the morning session they explained Swiss rail operations philosophy of timetable planning process as well as plans for 2030 operations in their home country. Afternoon session, held in the CLARE’s teaching room, included signaling/headway calculator, train physics, dispatching rules and API in the agenda. OpenTrack software was used for demonstrations and it is expected that many MU students will start using the software for their Master and PhD research projects shortly.
